AITAH for not picking up my daughter’s friend again after her mom did not pick my daughter and left her to walk home in the rain?

So I 41M have 3 kids with my wife 41M the older two are in college and my youngest is a sweet little 9 year old baby girl, my wife and I always wanted two kids so she was an unexpected but absolutely loved and beautiful surprise, we both love her to d th and her older brother and sister treat her like a princess.

She has this friend that she's been inseparable from since she was 2 and they're both the same age and are classmates.

This girl lives in our neighbourhood and I work from home full time so I take my daughter to and from school everyday and I used to take her friend as well, I had no problem waiting for her every morning.

Until last week. So last week I had a doctors appointment right when my daughter was supposed to finish school and it was heavily raining that day my wife and brothers and brothers in law were all either working or far away from us so l called my daughters friends father and asked him if he could get the girls home, he said he was at work but he'd send his wife, he told me he'd tell her to also get my daughter so I didn't question it.

When I got home I found my little daughter fully soaked and wet and she was crying, I asked her what happened and she said nobody picked her up and she had to walk the entire 25 minute walk home while it was pouring down rain, she said her friends mom came and took her daughter without offering mine a ride even though we live in the same neighbourhood, I called back her father to ask him why the h I she did that and he was angry.

I told him I'm not picking up their daughter anymore, he said he was sorry and that this was just a bad misunderstanding and I hung up.

They have sent their daughter over every morning since then way earlier than they did before but I send her back home every single time, her mom called my wife to complain that I'm being childish petty and vindictive, it was on speaker so I jumped in and said h I yea I'm a rd. petty b

Ok_Demand6493 NTA the other mom set the standard Did she or her husband ever explain?
  • 12
OP Remarkable-Brief-332 Nope just that it was a misunderstanding

lac0701 I'm surprised the school let her walk home when she is a car rider. My school calls us if we don't show up, they won't release kids in a different way than previously communicated and especially to be a walker if it's not approved. ??

OP Remarkable-Brief-332 Yea schools here don't give a what you do after the last class ends
  • 15
Dana Marie75038 NTA. The girls can be friends but don't do her parents any favor. One time you asked a favor and they sc ed you. Something could have happened to your girl. Don't do them any favor. Yup! I'd be petty too.

Unusual-Ideal-3509 Obviously nta, wth is wrong with that "mom", your daughter could have literally been trafficked or anything horrible, it's such a miracle that she got home safely omg. And if you were actually "petty" you'd do the same to let her see how it feels to know the impending danger your child could have been in so she can kindly s u. "Misunderstanding"... yeah right.

OP Remarkable-Brief-332 Yes especially during a heavy rainstorm like who does that
  • 18
punania If they haven't apologized, I think you're good with reacting how you are. If they did try to honestly apologized and you rejected it, then I'd say you're just escalating when you don't need to.
  • 19
    OP Remarkable-Brief-332 They haven't
  • 20
kathleengras Your daughter needs a cell phone, just for emergencies.
  • 21
OP Remarkable-Brief-332 Yes she does, it's her 10th birthday next week I'm getting her an iPhone 16

enonymous Canadian Why did the school allow a 9 year old to walk off alone in the rain at all? This is on the school for releasing her if the other mother was not taking charge of her!
  • 23
OP Remarkable-Brief-332 Schools in here are different, once class is off they don't care

kukonimz Info: what was the explanation to why she didn't take your daughter home, except saying it was a misunderstanding? What was the misunderstanding? And when you say he was angry- was he angry at you or his wife?
  • 25
OP Remarkable-Brief-332 They literally just said it was a misunderstanding, and he was angry at his wife
  • 26
Scenarioing Did your daughter say the wife refused to bring her or just didn't?
  • 27
OP Remarkable-Brief-332 My daughter said she asked if she can go home with her them and the mom said no
